In the bodybuilding world, Calum Von Moger is quite the polarizing figure.
It seems as if people either: love him, or, loathe him, and there doesn’t seem to be any middle ground.
While his personality may, shall we say, not be to everybody’s tastes, one thing you can’t take away from Calum, is his awesome physique.
Aged just 27 years of age, Calum has one of the most appealing and most aesthetic physiques in the entire world.
So then, it should come as no surprise to learn that he has been the subject of a lot of media attention over the last couple of years.
In actual fact, the upcoming sequel to Generation Iron, aptly named Generation Iron 2 features Calum as one of the main stars of the feature.
The original Generation Iron was billed as the modern day Pumping Iron, and centred around the biggest and most famous IFBB pro bodybuilders in the world, all training for the Mr Olympia contest.
Generation Iron 2 however, takes a look at bodybuilding from a different perspective.
The sequel will look at how social media and a keen work ethic can help turn everyday bodybuilders into social media megastars.
As mentioned, Calum is one of the leading features, but because of his physique, it has lead a lot of people to ask the question of is Calum Von Moger on steroids or natural?
Well, to provide an answer to this question, be sure to keep reading.
We obviously cannot say for definite who is and who is not natural, but we can look at the evidence and draw our own conclusions.
More About Calum Von Moger
As mentioned, at just 27 years of age, Calum Von Moger is one of the most famous names in bodybuilding today.
Born in Australia, Calum is hailed by many as being the second coming of the king of bodybuilding himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
So much so in fact, that people refer to Calum as ‘Arnold 2.0’.
The similarities are certainly noticeable: both are over 6 feet in height, both weigh/weighed around 240 – 260 pounds, both have chiselled jawlines that look like they’ve been carved out of granite, and both have/had incredibly muscular upper and lower bodies, trim and slender waists, and incredible symmetry, muscle bellies, and proportions.
Calum began lifting weights when he was 14 years of age, as he hoped to build a physique similar to that of his idol Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Calum would train with his older brother, who himself was pretty jacked.
This motivated Calum and spurred him on, plus he could benefit from the guidance and advice of his brother, who certainly knew his way around a gym.
As the months passed by, Calum became active on various bodybuilding forums, would train regularly with his brother, and would constantly seek advice on how he could improve his physique.
Competition And Titles
Those that ask is Calum Von Moger on steroids or natural, may not realize that Calum has actually competed as a bodybuilder for a very long time.
He entered his first contest back in 2010, aged just 20.
He won, and rightfully so.
He would also go on to win the NABBA junior international championships, as well as the junior Mr Universe.
Calum Von Moger would later go on to win countless other competitions in the bodybuilding world, not to mention the fact that he would regularly model sportswear, and would pick up numerous sponsorships from supplement companies along the way.
Calum’s Rise the Fame
Although Calum would regularly compete in, and win, numerous bodybuilding shows and contests, it wasn’t actually his bodybuilding career that helps push him into the eye of the general public.
No, in actual fact, the reason why Calum suddenly became famous, almost overnight, was all down to social media.
Calum is active on all social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube and Twitter.
Calum has more than 2 million FB followers, 2 million Instagram followers, and countless others on his social media platforms.
Needless to say, when you have this amount of people following you, you are obviously doing something right.
Many people believe that the reason why so many people were drawn to Calum’s social media pages, was because of the fact that his physique was so aesthetically pleasing.
Many people these days argue that pro bodybuilding needs to change.
The reason for this is that many IFBB pros nowadays, seem to focus on building as much freaky mass and size as possible, while sacrificing condition.
If you look at the Olympia back in September 2017, many criticized this show because the top 2 athletes, Phil Heath and Big Ramy, showcased enormous size, yet they both were not in condition and were flaunting stomachs that made them look as if they were pregnant.
Calum’s physique compared to the pros of today, is like a breath of fresh air.
At 250 pounds Calum is hardly small, yet in pro bodybuilding circles, where bodybuilders under 6 feet in height, often reach more than 300 pounds in weight, Calum would be extremely out-massed.
Despite this, however, people prefer his physique because it brings back memories of the golden age of bodybuilding, the 1970s, where bodybuilders were lean, symmetrical, and conditioned, with trim waists, rather than looking like genetic mutants with pregnant bellies.
Calum’s physique nowadays, is very similar to that or Arnold’s during the 70s, when he reigned supreme.
As people saw this on Calum’s social media pages, interest in him grew, and so too did his social status.
So, Is Calum Von Moger On Steroids Or Natural?
So, that brings us to the million dollar question as to whether or not Calum is in gear or if he is natural.
As mentioned, we can’t say for certain because we don’t know.
What we can do, however, is comes to an informed opinion, based on what we do know about Calum and his physique.
As mentioned, Calum began lifting weights when he was 14 years of age, and he obviously put a little size on as the months went by.
As he grew older he learned more about diet and nutrition, so obviously this reflected in his physique.
However, it wasn’t until he began competing, that Calum’s physique really changed.
In a matter of months, he gained upwards of 40 pounds of muscle, and was more conditioned and more vascular than ever.
This is where things really get interesting.
You see, Calum has gone on record as admitting to taking steroids in the past, as he claims he used them when he was competing, to help give him a competitive edge and to attain a physique worthy for the bodybuilding stage.
So, we already know that he has used them before, and it’s pretty obvious that he began using them when his physique improved so much, but is he still using?
Well, here’s a look at a few tell-tale signs of steroid use, so you can come to your own decisions:
First and foremost, one side effect often associated with steroid usage is vascularity.
Now, if a natural bodybuilder drops down to single digit body fat percentages, their veins will be visible, but not excessively.
With Calum, his vascularity was crazy as he had veins popping out all over the place.
His veins looked more like fire hoses than the actual parts of his body.
Calum is friends with IFBB pro Frank McGrath, who is arguably one of the most vascular bodybuilders to ever live, so maybe Frank gave Calum a few tips on how he could bring up his vascularity?
The more logical solution, however, is that Calum used steroids to help him build muscle and burn fat, while simultaneously enjoying freakish muscle pumps.
If you watch Calum’s snapchat videos, and browse his pictures on Instagram, you’ll see that he often looks very red in the face, and flushed, as if he has just stepped out of a sauna.
Now, for training pics and clips when he’s in the gym, this is perfectly normal because we all look flushed and red in the face when we exercise.
With Calum however, he tends to always look this way, even when he’s relaxing and doing nothing too strenuous.
Constantly In Shape
Those of you that train like a bodybuilder will know how tough it is to stay in half-decent shape, let alone the kind of shape where it looks as if you could jump on stage at any second.
Well, with Calum, he seems to always be in shape, no matter what.
There have been times where he has admitted to taking time away from the gym to relax, yet he still looks stage ready.
Also, you will notice that when he isn’t dieting for a show, his diet can be described as anything but healthy.
He will do things like mix protein powder, ice cream, coco pops cereal, and whole milk in a shake, and chug it down before training.
Just one of these shakes will take him close to his recommended daily intake of calories, yet you will see him training hours later with his ABS is looking leaner than ever, and his weight hardly changing at all.
Many of us need only to sniff a chocolate biscuit and we gain 10 pounds of fat, yet Calum is eating and drinking junk, not to mention partying and drinking plenty of alcohol, and he still looks huge and ripped.
This could be due to the fact that many steroids, especially the more powerful ones such as Tren, allow you to basically eat and drink what you like, and still build muscle and burn fat.
Some people are just blessed with good genetics, and Calum is certainly one of those people.
He is a classic Endomorph in that he is tall, he finds it very easy to build muscle, he is athletic, and he finds it easy to burn fat in the process.
With that said, however, genetics will only get you so far.
If you’ve ever seen Calum, you’ll know right away that he has a very blocky, square-shaped jawline.
This type of jawline is common amongst bodybuilders, not through steroid usage, but through HGH use instead.
HGH is commonly stacked with many steroid cycles and it has been known to change the shape and structure of a man’s jawline.
This COULD be why Calum has such a blocky jaw.
His Shape And Size
There are countless gym-goers out there who eat right, train hard, take supplements, and lead the lifestyle of a bodybuilder.
There are the ones who are natural, and the ones who are on steroids.
As great as they look, when you compare the average gym-rat’s physique to Calum’s, the difference is astonishing.
Calum walks around at upwards of 250 pounds of solid muscle, with barely an ounce of fat on his body.
Building this amount of muscle, while simultaneously burning fat and lifting incredibly heavy weights in the process, is incredibly difficult.
It is so difficult in fact, that many experts, including pro bodybuilders themselves, would say that it is impossible to get that big, with that kind of condition naturally.
For people asking is Calum Von Moger on steroids or natural, we would say to look at his physique and make your own minds up.
Calum Von Moger Steroids
Remember, Calum is a former Mr Universe and has a physique that would make many pro bodybuilders envious of, therefore if he was using steroids, the stack he was using would be very intense.
He would also likely run Clomid, or Nolvadex, as PCT once his cycle had ended, to help protect his body and to prevent unsightly side effects.
The Final Verdict
As mentioned, we can’t say for sure whether Calum is on steroids or not because we simply do not know.
Based on the evidence we have gathered, however, as well as the fact that he has a physique larger than a lot of hardcore bodybuilders who admit to taking steroids like Dwayne ‘the rock’ Johnson, Kali Muscle and Bradley Martyn, in our estimation, we would say that Calum is using steroids.
Remember, whether he is or isn’t, to attain that kind of shape and conditioning, and to maintain it year round, takes a whole lot of dedication and motivation.
Calum Von Moger trains like a beast, he knows his stuff, and he surrounds himself with experts and really takes his training seriously.
