When it comes to bodybuilding, there is a certain word that is often considered synonymous with this noble, and incredibly beneficial hobby and pastime, and that word is – Steroids.
It seems as if members of the general public can’t seem to accept the fact that a human being can build muscle naturally, and automatically assume that every muscular human being in the world is on steroids.
Now, anabolic steroid usage in bodybuilding is well documented, and nobody is trying to pull the wool over anybody’s eyes. The fact that there are ‘natural’ bodybuilding competitions and organizations in the world, surely proves that steroids are commonly used in many bodybuilding organizations.
We all know the dangers that are associated with steroid usage, but we also know that the media do have a habit of blowing things out of proportion and scaremongering, so are steroids really as bad as are led to believe?
Well, if you were to ask open steroid user ‘big natty daddy’ The 15 year old bodybuilder, you may be surprised by what you hear. Oh, and by the way, ‘big natty daddy’ as he refers to himself, is just 15 years of age!
Steroids And Bodybuilding
Before we look at the dangers associated with taking anabolic steroids, particularly if you are just 15 years of age, let’s first take a look at steroids and bodybuilding.
There are dozens upon dozens of different forms of steroid currently being used by bodybuilders, and what’s more, each one has its own unique effects.
There are steroids designed to strip away body fat, there are steroids which increase protein synthesis and muscle mass, there are steroids than increase endurance and stamina, there are steroids that boost strength levels, and much more besides.
Some steroids can be administered orally, whilst others have to be injected. Steroids can enhance muscle growth and athletic performance a great deal, but, if misused, or used incorrectly, they can provide a whole host of dangers.
The 15 Year old Bodybuilder “BigNattyDaddy”
Big Natty Daddy is a 15 year old bodybuilder, teenager from the USA, who has been featured in a number of documentaries and news reports, due to the fact that he openly admits to using anabolic steroids for bodybuilding purposes.
His screen name is pure irony as, the ‘natty’ is a reference to being natural, which of course, he is not. Despite the fact that he is 15 year old, he is incredibly muscular, is freakishly strong, and truthfully, has the appearance of a fully grown man well into his thirties.
The effects of the steroids are quite clear, and are pretty darn shocking. Numerous bodybuilders and prominent members of the bodybuilding and fitness communities have condemned his actions, and have spoken about how he will regret his steroid usage as he grows older.
He claims he is aware of the dangers and risks, but brushes it off as it being “his life” and that he “wouldn’t recommend it for others”. Despite this, it is pretty clear that this is a case of a young and naive teenager thinking that he knows it all.
Perhaps most shockingly of all, is the fact that he has gone on record as saying that he wants to “die young” and that he “hopefully dies before 40”.
Some people believe, based off of these comments, that he is a troubled youngster who is truthfully trying to kill himself via steroid usage and abuse.
The Risks Of Steroid Usage At Such A Young Age
Taking steroids at any age is dangerous, with common side effects including:
- Aggressive behaviour
- Hormonal imbalances
- Low testosterone levels
- Mood swings
- Organ damage
- Increased risk of stroke
- Reduced libido
- Damage to the heart
- Increased risk of heart attack
- Hair loss
- Water retention
- And more…
Now, those side effects are bad enough, but when you take steroids at such a young age, the risks increase dramatically.
You see, when you’re 15, your hormones are going crazy and you will be producing more testosterone and growth hormone than ever before. You are also still growing and developing.
By taking steroids, you are interfering with your growth and development and are far more likely to cause permanent hormonal imbalances in your body.
The bottom line is that people will always take steroids, and will always think that they know best.
There are ways of making steroid usage safer, but known and open steroid users will all talk about the fact that you should NEVER even consider using steroids until you have finished growing and developing.
